How the RTP works

  • Practitioner groups focus on development work in specific areas. At present these include Education for Discipleship, Training for Readers and Local Preachers, Lay Ministry Development (beyond initial training), Initial Ministerial Education (IME 4-7), Continuing Development in Ministry, Rural Ministry Network and Fresh Expressions.

  • New practitioner groups may be formed as needed to meet new challenges in mission.

  • A co-ordinating group consisting of representatives of the members of the RTP meet three or four times a year to develop ways of implementing the policy.

  • There is an annual meeting of the covenanting Anglican Dioceses, Methodist Districts, URC Synod and Training Institutions to develop policy and oversee the work of the RTP.

  • The RTP has appointed The Rev'd Barry Miller as Co-ordinator. His role is to act as the officer of the co-ordinating group and a reference point for the partners. He helps to develop and deliver training initiatives and liaise with national church bodies and other organisations for mutual resourcing and development.
